Despite facing a not-so-positive outcome in this role (given the economy, budget cuts, etc etc) i have a lot for which to be grateful.
1. it's been humbling - a good thing, since letting go of my false pride has helped me to see things for what they are
2. I've seen up close the value of digging deep via a comprehensive and well-structured discovery process. Due dilligence, however, is best accomplished with the input of many perspectives.
3. I've seen my strengths and weaknesses, which have helped me to see myself more clearly - to wit: i am adept at asking the right questions, building relationships, and am better (and more comfortable) with being disciplined, organized and following through. I still struggle with setting realistic expectations about myself. i still want to please. I still have a hard time understanding how to see past ppl's bullshit.
4. I've seen how impportant industry knowledge is - it gives you perspective on many, many levels.
5. I've seen how PPL's egos/ids drive their thinking and actions. i'm still confused as to how to deal with this, exactly. It's difficult to work with non-rational thoughts and actions, but it's nice (if uncomfortable) to have my non-rational stuff challenged.
6. Getting respect is important, even if you dont respect that person.
