Developing the New Approach

The following feels quite healthy, and is a radical departure from how I typically operate:
  1. Personal. I have to first start with my needs - emotional, physical, social, etc., and appropriately "resource" myself in order to reach sustainable success in all areas of my life.
  2. Family/social circle. I have to include my family as the next level of resourcing, once I've tackled the above.
  3. Vocation. My career and other ambitions need to help support the above with out greatly compromising.
The trick is to make the above flexible enough and realistic enough so that I am not trying to fully cover-off on any one variable, but rather am continually conscious of how each of the three are progressing. Like dials on a dashboard...

There is a ramp-up process for each, as I grapple with adopting new habits and perspectives. My hope is that as time passes, I will achieve a kind of flow wherein I have lots of established activity and momentum in all three areas.

For now, here's how I'm spending my time:

1. working out every day; limiting junk foods and high-fat foods. Soon, I'll be building up a more iron-rich and protein-rich diet and increasing the strenuousness of my workouts. Therapy, along with the Feeling Good book exercises, are very very useful.

2. allotting much more time and energy to the girls; making sure the house is clean; looking honestly at budgets and money. My next step is to pick a lingering project - yard, garage, basement, storage unit, and attic cleaning - and nail each.

3. just came across the csrwire site, which lists csr-friendly and mission-focused organizations and associations. there are dozens of contacts to make and even a couple of interesting positions. My next move is to get a bit more clear on my assets and criteria + update my personal strategy. As well, there seem to be a few one-off gigs that could be helpful....

Overall, I've made great strides since my meltdown and am overall thinking my new direction - despite the negative circumstances surrounding its origin - are quite positive. As I was telling my mother in a call last night, my prayers to become a better person truly seem to be being answered....

:)
