"Desire" is not "Reality"

Anthony Robbins. Sai Babba.  "The Secret." Shirley Mac Claine. Dennis Whately. What do all these have in common? They all say that if you imagine your success in a specific way, that precise vision of success will happen.

Want a million dollars? Imagine it. Want a fast car? Imagine it. Want a super awesome home Imagine it.

Just imagine - thinking about stuff means it will appear in precisely the way you envisioned. Just imagine....

And I did.

I imagined a great body. I imagined an erotic sex life. I imagined a super successful career.  I imagined a vibrant social life.  I created an entire world that didnt exist.

And after doing that for 20+ years, I went a little bit crazy.

And no wonder. There are so many sources of "information" that tell an ignorant person that he/she can simply conjure up anything. I remember a compelling scene from "The Secret" showing a kid thinking of a bicycle and then receiving one as a result.

So, what can my imagination help me with?

Well, even though this is from one of the sources I've allowed myself to be corrupted by, I think it does a good job of summing up an answer to that question:

Think and Grow Rich - Social Success Group
Create a clear plan and envision yourself experiencing success every day of your life. You are more likely to compel yourself to do everything in your power to acquire your goals, when you write them down and focus on them daily.

That is the limit of my imagination. I cannot make something appear that doesnt currently exist in reality simply by thinking about it. That is just crazy.
